Writing is an expression of words. Anyone can pick
up a pen and write but it takes a lot of trial and error to get
the hang of it. The most important point I can make is that failure
willhappen. More so in the beginning. Even so these failures
can make for great works in the future. Basically what I'm trying
to say is save all of your old work. You never know what will
happen in the future, and one day you could look at your old
ideas and get inspired.
One of the most important and most difficult parts
of writing is finding an idea. It is even harder to come up with
an idea you can use to write long or decent sized books. Again
it is all trial and error. Ideas can come pretty easy in the
right state of mind. Think of what you like or like to do and
go with it. Fan fiction may be a good way to start. Creating
original events for already made characters and worlds may prove
insightful. With all the great writers who have lived and are
out there now you may think it's difficult to come up with an
original idea. On the contrary, it is easier. The writers that
preceded you have set the stage in every genre. If you enjoy
action and adventure, J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings
series can help to inspire you in creating your own unique and
never before seen world. Horror, sci-fi, and suspense writers
definitely should check out works by Steven King.
I can say from my own personal experiences that
the best form of inspiration is anime. Bringing to life unrealistic
worlds and situations. Even though you're only limited by your
imagination as the saying goes anime delves on topics you will
never see in live action movies. Though it may seem a little
more difficult to write as if it were an anime. After all you
can't see the different expressions attributed to anime, such
as abnormally gaping jaws. More so, anime can help develop original
worlds and weapons.
Another source of inspiration would be music. Everything
from full-length songs to background music to television jingles.
For me, battle music serves to inspire both fight scenes and
just normal scenes. If it is something that makes you watch or
listen over and over again than use it to inspire you. I for
one will watch the same scene on a show or listen to the same
part of a song just because it fills my head with new and bold
ideas.
The most devastating problem for writers is "writer's
block." Those times of poor or lacking ideas can cause severe
dilemmas. Again when having trouble writing read your favorite
book, watch your favorite show or movie, or go for a walk. Anything
that can help to organize your thoughts or help you develop new
ones. Another way to help is if you have too many ideas going
on at once is to take a break. Giving your mind time to cool
down can help you straighten out ideas. Also when a new story
idea enters your mind and begins to interfere with your main
goal, write it down. Write out all the information on this new
idea that you can come up with and then put it aside. That gets
it out of your system and allows you to continue with your main
idea.
As a final note remember these tips may not work
for everyone. I would give them a try though if you are stuck.
You can always ask others for advice or see if an idea sounds
good.
